What can SaveVid download from Facebook?
Here's the honest rundown so you don't waste time on links that simply can't be downloaded.
Can download
- Public videos on personal timelines
- Videos from public Pages and groups
- Facebook Reels - short vertical videos
- Videos on Facebook Watch
- Short links like
fb.watch/… - Extract the audio as MP3
Can't download
- Videos in private groups or set to private
- Videos visible to friends only
- Stories - Facebook keeps them 24 hours and requires sign-in
- Videos currently live streaming
- Content that requires sign-in to view
How to get a Facebook link
It only takes a few seconds - just follow the steps for the device you're on.
On mobile
Open the video in the Facebook app → tap Share (the arrow) or the ⋯ in the post corner → choose Copy link.
On desktop
Click the post's timestamp to open the video on its own, then copy the address bar. Or click ⋯ → Copy link.
For Reels
On the Reels screen, tap Share on the right → Copy link. Paste it into the box at the top of this page.
Quality and formats
| Option | Format | When to use |
|---|---|---|
| Highest quality | MP4 | Watch on TV or desktop, edit into projects |
| Lower quality | MP4 | Save space, share via chat apps |
| Audio only | MP3 320kbps | Grab background music, speech, podcasts |
Maximum quality depends on what the uploader posted. If they uploaded a 720p video, there's no way to download a 1080p version - no tool can do that.
Facebook download FAQ
Can I download videos from private groups?
No. Content in private groups only shows to signed-in members, so the tool can't access it. This is a line we deliberately don't cross for privacy.
Do I need to sign in to Facebook? Will my account get banned?
No sign-in needed, and you shouldn't. SaveVid never asks for your password or accesses your account - so downloading videos has nothing to do with your Facebook account.
Do downloaded videos have a watermark?
No. Facebook doesn't add a watermark to videos, so the file you get matches the original the uploader posted.
Can I download Facebook Reels?
Yes. Copy the Reel link and paste it into the box at the top. Reels are usually vertical and keep their original framing.
Why do some videos fail to download?
Usually one of three reasons: the video was deleted, it's private/in a closed group, or the uploader restricted it by region. Try opening the link in an incognito window - if you can't watch it without signing in, the tool can't download it either.
Is downloading Facebook videos legal?
You should only download videos you posted yourself or content you're allowed to use. Reposting someone else's video without permission can infringe copyright. See our Terms of Use.

Download Facebook videos - complete and free
Facebook holds a lot of memories: a friend's clip of your child's first steps, a relative's wedding video, a funny clip in a group chat, a how-to video in a professional group. The problem is Facebook won't let you download videos - you can only add them to Saved, and you still need internet to watch again.
SaveVid solves that. Copy the video link, paste it into the box at the top, pick a quality, and download the MP4. No Facebook sign-in, nothing to install.
Supports all Facebook video types
- Timeline videos from personal profiles or public Pages.
- Facebook Reels - the popular short vertical format.
- Facebook Watch - longer videos, shows, short films.
- Short fb.watch links from the Share button in the app.
Convert Facebook videos to MP3
Many Facebook videos have audio worth keeping: a lecture, a speech, a cover song. Choose the "Audio only" option to get an MP3 that plays on any music player without taking up as much space as a video.
Why do some videos fail?
The three most common reasons: the uploader deleted it; it's in a private group or set to private; or the uploader restricted it by region. Quick check: open the link in an incognito window. If you can't watch it without signing in, the tool can't download it either - because both access it as a guest.
Is downloading Facebook videos safe?
We never ask for your password, never access your account, and don't keep the links you paste. Temporary files created during processing are deleted automatically after at most 30 minutes. Downloading has nothing to do with your Facebook account, so there's no risk of a ban for this.
